How did I arrive at pickle ball 11 months after my first exposure adding it to my bucket list in Florida with my BFF?
- She kept talking about how much she loved it, and how much value she got out of it.
- I determined I wanted to try it but to tell you the truth I was scared that I wouldn’t be good at it.
- I didn’t know they offered pickle ball in my city until November.
- I got on an email list for the schedule which created a weekly reminder of my bucket list goAl.
- I ordered the equipment in December.
- In January, I bought court shoes and some fun outfitS because my girlfriend said it’s all about looking cute on the court.
- I still was procrastinating because the timing of when they play wasn’t perfect in my schedule and I thought I had to play for 2 -4 hours five-7 days a week like my friend does.
- I showed up at a Saturday tournament at the location I wanted to play and felt more comfortable watching them.
- A month later, I decided since the morning session wasn’t gonna work for me, how about I try an evening session and how about I only ask myself to go one time a week?
- I showed up looking the part and everyone was shocked It was my first time. They said well, Surely you must’ve played tennis before. I said no.
- The guru on the court played one game with me and said “I don’t tell everyone this, but you should definitely keep this up because you’ve got some natural talent for this game.”
To be continued…
will I get addicted and play for the rest of my life?
????????????
I can see why it’s such a great sport for middle aged to older people because it does challenge you, but not tax your body too much.
And no matter where you move to, you can join an instant community.
It makes workouts far more fun, which will keep you in shape for life.
Now I’m on a mission to recruit some friends to play with me.
What other sport can you do with a team that doesn’t cost anything after you buy your paddles?
But I think the biggest appeal is belonging to some thing and developing relationships that add value to your life.
Pickle ball… More than a sport, it’s a community, therapy and connection.
And that is why it is the fastest growing sport in the US today.
